Midsummer Night Swing
at Lincoln Center

Every season, New York’s outdoor dance party draws record crowds. Dance bands play everything from salsa to swing, two-step, disco and more. Under the stars on the plaza just off Broadway, Lincoln Center takes a very broad interpretation of swing but, whichever way you cut it, it's rhythm - soul, funk, tango, merengue to cha cha and boogaloo to jump. Tuesday is big band swing night. Tickets are only needed for the dance floor; if you don't want to dance it's free to listen.

Last year's music included "Blues for Stephanie" by Prins Claus Conservatorium Big Band and George Gee's Big Buddha Boogie Big Band Swing Sh'bang.

2007 saw the first Mad Hot Midsummer Dance Off! The contestants were selected by professional judges Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin of Dance Manhattan, choreographers for the Fox Television series, "So You Think You Can Dance." Through text-message voting, the crowd judged the final round of the competition that crowned Lincoln Center’s Top Swinger.
